How to Keep Your Skin Hydrated in Winter
Winter is here, and it’s no joke! Whether you’re braving below freezing temps or just having to deal with some slightly colder morning workouts, don’t let your hustle leave your skin haggard. And, don’t let the cold become an excuse to skip your workouts! Keep up your routine and take care of your skin with the easy tips below on how to keep your skin hydrated in winter.
Turn Down the Heat
As good as it my feel during the winter, hot water is so, so drying to skin. As much as you can try to use lukewarm water in the shower or, at the very least, when you wash your face and hands.
When it comes to face washes and moisturizers during this season, you’ll want to step away from harsh soap-based cleansers. Instead, focus on finding creamy alternatives rich in moisturizing ingredients like shea butter, jojoba, and hyaluronic acid.
Americans tend to have an aversion to oil-based skincare, but don’t panic! I promise you won't instantly break out if you find the right products for you. Face-friendly oils like marula, jojoba, olive, and coconut can be excellent for long-lasting hydration.
Balm It Up
Your favorite moisturizing lip balm doesn’t just belong on your lips during winter. Rub it on any dry spots like your elbows, and consider dabbing onto your cheeks for a moisturizing boost that doubles as a highlighter.
Turn on the Humidifier
It’s totally understandable to want to crank up the heater during winter! But since hot air can be very drying, counter it by also turning on a humidifier to keep the air moist. You can even add essential oils for a wonderful aromatherapy treat.
